Buckle Your Belt
School is back in session and so is the William Mattar Buckle Your Belt Campaign. Our firm focuses on keeping New Yorkers safe on the road, and we want to reward those who make safety a priority. Each fall, we reward students with a chance to win a pizza party for taking the pledge to always wear a seatbelt; while students take the pledge seriously, they also have fun celebrating seatbelt safety. We invite your classroom to take the pledge.
Visit our Buckle Your Belt Campaign page to learn more about the pledge and register your classroom.
Pencils 4 Schools Campaign

So far, the campaign has donated tens of thousands of pencils to school districts throughout Western New York.

Be a Protector, Get a CO Detector!
January is Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Awareness Month in the state of New York. That’s why William Mattar Law Offices is partnering with local nonprofit organization, The Amanda Hansen Foundation, to support awareness of this lethal gas and its harmful effects.
William Mattar is once again teaming up with The Amanda Hansen Foundation to distribute thousands of dollars' worth of carbon monoxide detectors. Join us at Tops Friendly Markets, 1989 Seneca Street in Buffalo, on Sunday, January 26, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and receive your free carbon monoxide detector (limit 1 per household please, while supplies last). Keep your family safe and protect your loved ones.
The Amanda Hansen Foundation was established in memory of 16-year-old Amanda Hansen who passed away from carbon monoxide poisoning while at a friend’s house for a sleepover. The foundation’s main goal is to spread awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide in the home and to ensure that CO detectors are given to those who could not typically afford them.
Holiday Help for a Local Family in Need
For Christmas, William Mattar, P.C. sponsored a local family in need. We were overwhelmed by the amount of support we received from our staff members. They truly demonstrated the Mattar Way of giving back to the community! The liaison between our firm and the family sent us a note, and we’d like to share it:
"There are not enough words to say how thankful myself, the school, and family were for all the wonderful gifts. Mom could barely move she was so overwhelmed. Their apartment was filled with gifts everywhere. This time of year really puts life into perspective for me. I am grateful to have worked at William Mattar Law Offices with such wonderful and great people that are willing to take the time to make a stranger’s Christmas blessed. I wish all of you Happy Holidays and may the New Year hold love and happiness for all of you. THANK YOU Everyone! Thank you Tressa and Julie for keeping things so organized!"
26th Annual Buffalo Ball Drop
At a press conference on Dec. 19, William Mattar announced that our law firm will be one of the sponsors of the 26th Annual Buffalo Ball Drop on New Year’s Eve in Roosevelt Plaza (at the intersection of Huron, Genesee, and Washington Streets).
Tens of thousands of people will gather for the second largest such event in the United States. We’re proud to be one of the sponsors for this year’s event, and we encourage everyone to come downtown for the celebration.
If you feel you’ve had one too many celebratory drinks after ringing in 2014, we encourage you to utilize our Safe and Sober Free Ride Home Program. Call Designated Drivers of Buffalo at 713-7703, and they will provide a safe ride home for both you and your car.
Rescue a Shelter Animal Campaign Winner

Thank you to everyone that participated, and please remember to support your local shelter!
Spreading the Joy of the Season with Toys for Tots
We believe every child deserves to have a happy Christmas morning. That’s why William Mattar Law Offices is proud to once again participate in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program. The mission of the Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during the months of October, November, and December every year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to local children in need.
You can help us give underprivileged children in our community a joyful Christmas. Bring new, unwrapped toys suitable for children under age 16 to our office at 6720 Main St. in Williamsville, New York. Our office hours are Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.
Together, we can help ensure that every child in our community experiences the joy and excitement of Christmas morning.
Thinking PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
There are more than 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. and 250,000 women are newly diagnosed each year. Breast cancer is a disease that affects everyone. To show our support for the fight against breast cancer, William Mattar Law Offices went PINK and launched a breast cancer awareness campaign during the month of October. The campaign was a great success and will be back again in October 2014.
Free Smoke Detectors for Fire Safety Month
October is Fire Safety Month, and the William Mattar Fire Prevention Program is reminding Western New Yorkers to take proper precautions to keep their homes safe from fire.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), properly installed and maintained smoke alarms are vital for reducing fire-related deaths and injuries. The NFPA estimates 890 lives could be saved every year if all homes had smoke detectors that worked.
We want to help keep Western New York safe, so we’re giving away free smoke detectors to everyone who registers for the William Mattar Fire Prevention Program during the month of October.
Registration is free. Simply download and fill out this form. Email your completed form to Dawn Raub (firstname.lastname@example.org) and you’ll receive a certificate redeemable for a free smoke detector at Ed Young’s True Value Hardware, located at 5641 Main Street in Williamsville, NY. 97 Rock just hosted their 19th telethon to support the Make-A-Wish® foundation. There are many worthwhile causes and foundations, and Make-A-Wish is certainly one of them. We were glad to be able to make a donation to this year’s efforts. During our visit, we stopped to get a photo with our friend and radio host Larry Norton. Please visit the Make-A-Wish website to find out how you can help.
Buckle Your Belt Winner Believes in Seatbelt Safety
Buckle Your Belt contest winner Antonio Imperi was awarded a free trip for four to Fern Resort in Orillia, Canada, this week.
Antonio grew up in the Buffalo, New York, area and is excited about winning the drawing. He became a big believer in seat belt safety after his sister was in a serious car accident and says that he will “always buckle up.”
Congratulations to Antonio, and thank you to everyone who made this campaign such a great success.
Buckle Your Belt and Win a FREE Trip to Fern Resort!

Congratulations to 2013 winner Antonio Imperi (Tonawanda, NY)—recipient of a family trip for four to Fern Resort in Ontario!
William Mattar is passionate about women’s safety issues, and we’re proud to sponsor a free Women’s Awareness and Self Defense Seminar. Taught by retired Lieutenant Colonel Michael “Moose” Moore of The Vigilance Group, this one-time free training is a unique hybrid of skills training designed to help women successfully recognize and respond to situations that could result in deadly outcomes.
University at Buffalo
Student Union Room 330 (North Campus)
April 17 (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.)
The mission of The Vigilance Group is to teach women a variety of ways to neutralize violent situations and to find space and separation in order to successfully escape. Although self-defense and survival techniques are demonstrated in this seminar, the primary emphasis is on empowering women to recognize potential risks.
Remember, the best way to avoid a crime of opportunity is to remove the opportunity! For more information, please contact William Mattar.

Safe Ride Home Program
William Mattar wants to help limit the tragedies that result from drunk driving. The Safe Ride Home Program not only educates people on the alternatives to drinking and driving, but also gives tips on dealing with situations that may arise from such social settings. As another part of the program, William Mattar partners with Designated Drivers of Buffalo and Rochester to offer free rides home to people who have been drinking or need a safe way home.
Carbon Monoxide Poison Awareness Month
After losing their daughter to carbon monoxide poisoning, Ken and Kim Hansen created the Amanda Hansen Foundation, which distributes free carbon monoxide detectors to families.
