New York State Troopers Receive Training for Electric Car Crashes

Electric cars are providing an efficient means of transportation for people around the world, but first responders to electric car accidents are facing new dangers. In an effort to better protect rescue crews from these risks, The Wall Street Journal reports New York State Troopers are undergoing electric vehicle accident training tomorrow.

The session, being held at the State Police Academy in Albany by the National Fire Protection Association, will discuss some of the common safety concerns these new vehicles present, including airbags, high-voltage batteries, high-strength steel, and key-less ignitions.

In the event of a Buffalo Car Accident requiring rescue crews to use cutting tools, high voltage cables and wires running through an electric vehicle can present a risk of electrocution. The danger of a punctured airbag propellant tank can be just as fatal. Researchers have also shown great concern in the fire and burn injury risks that a crack in the casing of an electric car’s battery can present.

Advanced materials are also being discussed, as the high-tensile steel currently being used in vehicle pillars to prevent roof collapses can be harder to bend and cut through in the event of extrication.
