2007 was a trend in the right direction in terms of car accident safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that in 2007, traffic deaths reached their lowest levels since 1994. However, there were still plenty of car accidents, with the NHTSA reporting a total of 41,059 people killed and another 2,491,000 injured. Alcohol, Distraction Named Causes of Fatal New York Car Accident

October 5, 2007

Late last week, four young Jasper people were killed in a drunk driving car accident, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Alcohol and distraction have been identified as the reasons for the fatal crash. Speed has been ruled out as a factor.

All of the car accident victims involved in the crash had alcohol in their systems. Only one of them was old enough to drink, while the rest were teenagers. One of car crash injury victims had been crowned homecoming queen just hours before the tragedy.

A police official said the car drifted on the road, hit a guard rail, became airborne and struck a concrete abutment then came to rest on its side. Two of the car accident victims died on impact, according to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office, while the other two died shortly afterward.

New York Pedestrian Killed in Car Accident

A 42-year-old woman was killed in a pedestrian accident Thursday night, according to The Post-Standard. The car accident happened around 11:45 p.m. when another Rome woman was driving south on Route 26. The car crash victim may have been struck inadvertently by other vehicles after the initial impact.

Police are still investigating the accident.

Crossing Guard Dies in Rochester Car Accident

A school crossing guard died in a Rochester hit-and-run car accident Tuesday morning, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. The car accident injury victim was in the crosswalk about 8:20 a.m. when she was struck.

Police believe they found the vehicle responsible for the fatal pedestrian accident and are interviewing several witnesses.

New York Motorcycle Accident Claims One Life

A motorcycle accident claimed the life of a driver Thursday night, according to the Times Union. New York State Police are still investigating the crash that happened on Interstate 787 around 10:30.

The motorcycle crash happened just north of a junction with Route 378, which crosses the highway. Troopers are expected to release more information, including the name of the motorcycle accident victim, later today.

Troy Car Accident Victim Still in Critical Condition

October 23, 2007

A Troy car accident victim was still in critical condition Sunday after his car crash in Tioga County’s Union Township, according to the Star-Gazette. The 31-year-old was still being treated for his accident injuries in Robert Packer Hospital’s intensive unit.

Two passengers in the car were also treated for car accident injuries after the crash and released. The driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole, then rolled several times before landing in a field.

Police said alcohol was involved in the car crash.

Brother Charged in New York Car Accident

The Times Union reported that the man who was driving has been charged with vehicular homicide, DWI, DUI, reckless endangerment, and speeding after the car accident that killed his brother.

The 20-year-old lost control of his car and slammed into a guardrail on the side of the road Thursday morning. His 24-year-old brother was pinned in the passenger seat and pronounced dead from his car crash injuries after being taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to jail.

Car Accident With a Bus Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

A 16-year-old girl died and two teenagers were injured in a car crash Sunday involving a bus, according to The Post-Standard. The driver of the car pulled in front of the bus at a stop sign.

One of the teenagers was ejected from the vehicle and landed in a ditch, while the other two remained in the car. Both of the female passengers were unconscious when a witness arrived to help.

The driver, a 16-year-old boy, and one of the passengers were taken to the hospital to be treated for their car accident injuries, while none of the nine passengers on the bus needed treatment.

New York Car Accident Puts One Man In The Hospital

November 2, 2007

The Times Union reported that a car accident has hospitalized a Schenectady man with a head injury. The car crash left an SUV upside down in the road, whose driver was the one injured, and a Honda Civic damaged. The driver of the Civic did not suffer accident injuries according to police.

The Schenectady car crash is being investigated because, according to a policeman, one of the vehicles should have been stopped at a red light.

Couple in Separate Vehicles Involved in New York Car Accident

A woman died and a man was injured in a two-vehicle car accident, according to The Observer-Dispatch—the two have been a couple for over 20 years. The accident happened around 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon and police say the man’s pickup truck was in the opposite lane of the road when the car accident happened.

Both of the car accident victims were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision and police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The woman died of her car accident injuries at the scene and the man is recovering at a Syracuse hospital.

Three Hospitalized After New York Car Accident

November 9, 2007

Three people were sent to the hospital Thursday with injuries sustained in a New York car accident, according to The Observer-Dispatch. Three vehicles were slowing to a stop at an intersection when the car at the back rear-ended the middle vehicle, slamming it into the first car.

The 47-year-old driver of the middle vehicle and his passenger were both taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for evaluation, along with the driver who caused the car crash. The man who caused the car accident was cited for following too closely and driving with a suspended license.

New York Car Accident Injures One

November 13, 2007

A woman rear-ended another driver at a traffic light Monday morning, leaving one person injured from the car accident, according to the Observer Dispatch. The woman was cited for following too closely.

Around 11:28 a.m., the driver who caused the car crash was treated for neck and chest pain at the scene of the accident and then transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

Child Injured in Utica Car Accident

November 16, 2007

A Utica child was critically injured in a car accident Friday when he was hit by a vehicle about 8:10 p.m. No charges related to the car crash have yet been filed.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the child was being interviewed and police were investigating the case late Friday night. The child was taken to a local hospital in critical condition to be treated for his car accident injuries.

Troy Pedestrian Accident Victim Dies Sunday

November 27, 2007

A woman who was injured in a Troy pedestrian accident on Nov. 17 has passed away, according to the Albany Times Union. The 46-year-old pedestrian accident victim was crossing the street around 7:30 p.m. when she was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The man who caused the accident cooperated with police and will not be charged. A police investigation found that the victim was not in a marked crosswalk when she was hit.

Several New York Car Accidents in Monday’s Winter Weather

December 4, 2007

The winter weather on Monday was a factor in several car accidents, according to The Observer-Dispatch. Police say a road was closed due to about 15 car crashes with minor injuries in the vicinity on Monday.

A woman was injured in a two-car car accident when she was struck while attempting a left turn. The driver of the vehicle who caused the accident said she hadn’t seen the other woman in the intersection. The driver who was struck was taken to a hospital to be treated for her accident injuries while the other driver was not injured.

Heart Attack Causes Albany Car Accident Friday Morning

An Albany man died in a car accident Friday morning after suffering from a heart attack, according to the Times Union. After the heart attack, the accident victim veered off the road and ran into a home.

The car crash happened at 6:30 a.m. and no one else was injured in the accident. Paramedics performed CPR at the scene of the car accident, according to police.
