Police continued to search by boat and air for the body of a 39-year-old woman who they presume is dead after the car she was a passenger in on Friday crashed into the Chenango River in the Town of Fenton, New York.
The 23-year-old driver of the car survived the crash by escaping out of a window, but the bodies of two other passengers were recovered. A 45-year-old male and 25-year-old male were both found inside the submerged car. Police believe that strong river currents washed the female passenger away.
The car accident occurred near midnight on Friday night when a 1996 Ford Explorer hit a guardrail on Interstate 88 West, went airborne, and hit a river bank, plummeting into the river.
The crash is still being investigated and no charges have been filed yet, but Broome County Undersheriff Alex Minor told Fox News that alcohol, high speed, and vehicle malfunction could be factors in the crash.
