Pedestrian killed in Long Island car accident

A 93-year-old female pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning in an accident in Huntington Station on Long Island, CSS New York reports.

The woman was trying to cross New York Avenue near West 9th Street when she was hit at 6:40 a.m. She was transported to Huntington Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The vehicle, a 1999 Ford Taurus, that struck her was driven by a 68-year-old woman heading southbound on New York Avenue. The driver was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, said police.

The deceased had lived in Huntington Station, New York, for 14 years and has two grown children.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, detectives are still investigating the accident. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward and call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800- 220-TIPS.
