Thanksgiving is approaching, and hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers are expected to take to the highways. The holiday is known for producing some of the highest annual traffic volumes in the state, which too often results in motor vehicle collisions.

The Car Accident Lawyers with William Mattar Law Offices point out that the New York State Police will be implementing “special traffic enforcement” techniques throughout the holiday weekend to help reduce the number of crashes this Thanksgiving. These methods include saturation patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and using unmarked patrol units to catch distracted drivers.

A story published by The Observer states officers on the road will be watching for aggressive behaviors such as tailgating, speeding, and vehicles weaving in traffic. Meanwhile, fixed sobriety checkpoints will be utilized at pinpointed locations throughout the state as a means of keeping drunk drivers off the road. This particular operation is especially important because the Thanksgiving holiday produces a high number of alcohol-related collisions.

As part of “Operation Hang Up”, troopers with the state’s Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) unit will be working to ensure motorists are not talking or texting while driving.

William Mattar and his firm of Personal Injury Lawyers applaud the efforts the state is making to keep motorists safe and urge drivers to take safety into consideration at all times when traveling this holiday season!
