An 82-year-old man from Toronto died Monday in a head-on collision on rural Route 63 in Oakfield, New York.

The Democrat and Chronicle reports that the crash occurred when the man, who was northbound just before noon, steered his car across the road’s center line and into the opposite lane, where he collided with a southbound minivan. Inside the van were a Williamsville couple in their sixties.

The Toronto man was pronounced dead at the crash site and was transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Both the driver of the mini van and his wife were taken to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. The man suffered minor cuts and bruises while the woman broke her wrist in the accident. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, reports The Batavian.

“There are clear indications that tell us [the elderly man] crossed into the left lane,” said Sgt. Kurt Schmitt. “There are indications in the roadway.”

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
