Erie County Gets Funding for Highway Safety Program

Posted: October 9, 2015

Raising awareness about the dangers of car accidents is a top priority for every Buffalo car accident injury lawyer at William Mattar Law Offices. So it’s no surprise that we are excited to see federal grants were secured to fund an educational highway safety program in our area.

According to Niagara Frontier Publications, Erie County was awarded an $18,685 grant from the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The money will be used to fund 590 hours of coursework that focuses on teaching drivers about the dangers they face on the road and how to avoid these risks. The course will be held in high schools and other facilities in the Erie County region through 2016.

Officials say the program aims to reduce motor vehicle accidents, injuries, and fatalities that occur on New York roads.

The grant money is not tied to alcohol or DWI-related offenses. However, the state’s STOP-DWI Office will oversee distribution of the funds.

Learning about the causes of car accidents and the actions you can take to prevent them can help to keep you safe on the road. That’s why the legal staff at William Mattar Law Offices is ecstatic that this program is coming our way soon. In the meantime, we encourage you to stay safe and keep these steps to take after an accident in case a crash happens.
