Each year, hundreds of people are killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions in Erie County, New York. The Buffalo Car Accident Lawyers with William Mattar Law Offices point out that several new pieces of safety technology may help reduce this number in the future.

An article from the New York Daily News explains car manufacturers have developed several new methods to keep vehicles from colliding with other motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. One of the most interesting devices in the works is a night-vision system that allows motorists to see objects, animals, or people in the roadway before they can be seen in the headlights.

Car makers are also helping to lower the number of distracted and drowsy driving accidents by installing technology that detects when vehicles begin to drift off of roadways. The system works by installing numerous sensors that read the lines of the road and offer a vibration or automatically correct the vehicles position when the vehicle veers off course.

Vehicles may also soon be equipped with mirrors that can detect when another vehicle is in a driver’s blind spot.

The Personal Injury Lawyers at William Mattar explain it could be some time before this technology becomes standard on vehicles. That’s why the firm urges motorists to stay safe in the meantime by buckling up, slowing down, and always paying attention to the road.
