A 53-year-old man from Port Jefferson Station, New York, was hit by a car and killed in Huntington Station just after midnight on Friday, June 24.

According to the Port Jefferson Patch, the man was lying on Long Island’s New York Avenue when a 2006 BMW headed northbound hit the man who, police say, was “lying prone on the road” before he was struck.

Police say the BMW’s driver was “definitely not intoxicated” and note that there was a passenger in the vehicle with him at the time of the crash.

The victim’s sister told police that he suffered from seizures and that he may have had one prior to being hit by the BMW.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and an on-site medical examiner deemed trauma to be the cause of the death.

A car headed south in the other lane had spotted the man lying in the road and had turned around but by then he had already been run over.

The BMW has been impounded for a safety check.
