A 20-year-old woman was left seriously injured after being struck by an Erie County Deputy Sheriff’s patrol car as she was riding her bicycle last week. Reports indicate the Buffalo Bicycle Accident occurred last Friday night, along North Buffalo Street in the village of Springville, New York.

According to an article from WIVB 4 News, there are conflicting stories as to what led to the crash. The deputy stated that he was responding to a call when he looked down for a brief moment. When he looked up, he had struck the young woman.

Witnesses say the officer was traveling at a high rate of speed when he passed through the intersection with no lights or sirens activated just seconds before hitting the cyclist.

The crash left the woman with two fractured ribs and a fractured vertebra.

Many are wondering what legal rights they may have to compensation if they are injured in such an accident.

The Buffalo Personal Injury Lawyers with William Mattar Law Offices explain that a cyclist may be entitled to compensation following an accident if a driver’s negligence led to the accident. However, this can sometimes be difficult to prove. That is why the firm suggests discussing your legal options with an attorney if you have been injured in a bicycle crash that wasn’t your fault.
