A Monroe, New York, woman, 53, was fatally injured in a three-car crash on Interstate 83 in York County, Pennsylvania, on Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred at 2:36 p.m. when the woman’s Subaru, headed north in the left lane, was hit by a tractor-trailer whose driver was from New Braunfells, Texas. The truck driver was attempting to merge from the right lane into the left lane. The impact caused the Subaru to hit the median wall, sandwiching it between the tractor-trailer and the wall. The Subaru was then pushed atop the median wall, where it skidded for 100 feet before hitting a tractor-trailer headed south.
The crash caused the hood of the Subaru to fly up and into the windshield, which police say caused the woman’s fatal injuries.
York County Deputy Coroner Steve Cosey told the York Dispatch that an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
The driver of the southbound tractor-trailer was treated for minor injuries at York Hospital. The other tractor-trailer driver was unhurt.
I-83 reopened to traffic at 8:40 p.m. on Monday evening.
